With the excitement from the kids it was clearly said that this day should never pass. On the 2nd of August 2018 the Matjana Preschool kids set out for an excursion to Mlilwane Game Reserve and Kwena Camp, an activity centre for children based at one of Swaziland’s fancy hotels, Lugogo Sun. Both places are in Ezulwini.

It wasn’t a tour only for kids but also for teachers because it was their first time to be at an exquisite camp area like Kwena Camp. It was lots of fun.

The day began early at 7am. A kombi arrived to pick up the kids, teachers, and one member of the school committee. We never said the kids must sing but we heard them singing (Walking through Mlilwane, what can you see? I can see a zebra looking at me”). The kombi was full of laughter.

Our first stop was at Mlilwane Game Reserve. The kids first went to the lavatory because they had been travelling a long way. The children saw different types of animals, zebra, blackboks, warthog, an impala, buffalos and huge crocodiles. It was so thrilling to hear the kids telling us (teachers) what each animals eats. This is something they have learnt from school because animals is one of our learning themes in term 2.

We hit the road to Lugogo Sun. Kwena Camp is vibrant. Children were playing on jumping castles when we arrived, and the excitement in our kombi grew.

After getting off the kombi, the Matjana kids played on plastic horses, until the time came when they were to ride real horses. It was great for them to finally get a chance to see the real thing, and so gripping to see the kids on top of horses. After that they went for their delicious lunch. Then with fully bellies they went to a game room where they played many exhilarating games.

The Matjana kids said goodbye to Kwena camp with an ice cream. Then it was time to go home.

It was a long day, with so much excitement that the kids slept most of the way home. They grumbled when they were shaken awake after reaching Kaphunga. But they woke up pretty quickly to tell their waiting parents the exciting stories from their big day out.

Fundraising Update

Donations keep trickling into our account. We truly appreciate the support we’re getting, but desperately need more money to ensure we can pay our teachers and keep the Matjana Preschool doors open until the end of the year. If you can, please donate!
